Internationally celebrated for his powerful paintings, expressive figure drawings, and understanding of anatomy, Steve has spent decades helping artists uncover something far more important than simply drawing accurately. His paintings have rhythm, design, movement, and Steve Huston helps his students learn to see the underlying poetry within every subject.

For the first time WIF is hosting Steve Huston Workshop in Scotland that brings this philosophy of painting the figure to a select number of students. Models are provided when painting on the estate and outdoors on location. Majestic mountains, ancient castles, sweeping coastlines, quiet lochs, and ever-changing light become the perfect environment for exploring these same artistic principles that have made Steve one of today’s most respected instructors.

This is far more than a standard figure workshop. It is an opportunity to learn from Steve while fundamentally strengthening the way you observe, compose, and create in iconic surroundings.

Steve Huston has taught thousands of artists around the world through workshops, academies, and online education. 

His work is deeply rooted in the traditions of the great masters while remaining fresh, contemporary. Steve teaches, continually returning to classical art and timeless principles. But also teaches the merits of abstraction and modern art. The evidence is in his painting, where strong design, dynamic composition, rhythmic movement and expressive mark make up his award winning style.

Rather than focusing on copying what is in front of you, Steve teaches you how to understand how to render those forms  —  how you transform the subject from observation to painting on the canvas. These are skills that you can use long after the workshop has ended.

Scotland as Your Studio

The Scottish Highlands offer some of the most breathtaking scenery in Europe. Over the nine days, we’ll paint among rich farmlands and rugged coastlines, ancient castles, and fishing villages. Perfect opportunities to study atmosphere, light, value, and mood — elements that have inspired generations of painters.
