“Thanks all for your support! I never try to paint during a presentation or demo, but I thought I’d give it a try. … However, I will never forget the lessons I learned and relearned. Patience, truly being there with the painting, forethought, painting structure and more.
Glad it was just two days so I can rewatch the whole thing over and over!
Julie Snyder, thanks to you and your crew and Quang Ho, of course, for a marvelous experience! “
“I think I may have been exploring equalization (partly) in Plein Air painting without having the vocabulary that Quang has now given us now to describe it so well. Thanks for voicing the concept so fully!
Thanks for the inspirational day”
“Quang thanks for the workshop. I’ve been stuck and now realize that it was about confusion with light/shadow vs. tonal paintings. Thanks for patiently explaining it to us with examples! I’m now going to attack a pile in my studio. Funny thing is that I don’t think it will take much to complete them. As I said before thanks for your generosity of knowledge.
You have amazing stamina. All the best to you and your family. Remember to thank Adrienne as I’m sure she had to work extra hard on the home front. I appreciate both of you.
“Really enjoying the weekend. I haven’t painted ‘impressionistically’ for a while now, and although the brush strokes are rusty, it was good to get going.
I especially enjoyed seeing the artistic decisions Quang made, such as altering the colour and shape of the tablecloth, changing the chair etc. It was very late in the UK (1 am) when the session ended, so I just did one this morning before today’s marathon session! “
“I had time for a block-in today. Lots of work to do but I felt more decisive.
Thank you Quang Ho for your generosity, in sharing all your ideas with us.
Thank you Julie Snyder for organizing this workshop.”
Quang Ho: Master Painter
Quang Ho was born in Vietnam in 1963 and emigrated to the United States at age 12. Quang had his first one-man-show in Denver, Colorado at the age of 16. Tragically his mother’s death in 1982 left Quang with the responsibility of raising five younger siblings. That same year, Quang attended the Colorado Institute of Art on a National Scholastics Art Awards Scholarship where he developed a foundation for his artistic understanding.
Working mostly in oils, Quang’s subject matter ranges from still-lifes, landscapes, interiors, and dancers, to figurative pieces.
Quang Ho’s paintings are collected internationally. He is an important American artist and enjoys an international reputation for his work. He has completed commissions for several prominent clients — including the Coors Company, the Colorado Symphony, and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. His work has been seen in numerous invitational and solo exhibitions. Lately, his work was presented in a two-man show with Scott Christensen at the Booth Museum and he had a recent sell-out show at the 1261 Gallery in Denver, Colorado. His painting has been featured in publications including Fine Art Connoisseur, Southwest Art, Art of the West, and Art-Talk. Don’t miss this opportunity to watch a master artist at work.
“Subject matter is not really important to me. I can find visual excitement all around me as well as on the canvas – from a knot on a tree, the graceful limp of a flower wilting, to a juxtaposition of a few simple shapes and colors…inspirations are inexhaustible.”
“…The real essence of painting is the dialogue between shapes, tones, colors, textures, edges, and line. Everything else follows – including light, form, concepts, personal beliefs and inspirations. …Understanding gives rise to higher understanding. Working this way allows me to open the door to new ideas and inspirations. One day I may be interested in a color statement, and the next may be a relationship of simple shapes, and the next an extremely complex arrangement of texture and edges…With every painting there is a singular visual thought to be completed.”
